What is the purpose of the TOEFL?

Since 1963, the TOEFL has been used by scholarship selection committees of governments, universities,

and agencies such as Fulbright, the Agency for International Development, AMIDEAST, Latin

American Scholarship Programs, and others as a standard measure of the English proficiency of their

candidates. Some professional licensing and certification agencies also use TOEFL scores to evaluate

English proficiency.

The admissions committees of more than 4,400 colleges and universities in the United States,

Canada, and many other countries worldwide require foreign applicants to submit TOEFL scores along

with transcripts and recommendations in order to be considered for admission.

Many universities use TOEFL scores to fulfill the foreign language requirement for doctoral candidates

whose first language is not English.

Why do People attend college or university ?

People attend college or university for many different reasons. Why do you think people attend college or university? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

People study in college or university for many different reasons. I think the most important reason is to gain more knowledge and learn more skills. Of course, there are also many other reasons that people study in college such as to get more friends, and increase one’s self confidence.

These days, most jobs require people who are educated and have good job skills. Therefore, the people who want a good job have to study hard and at least graduate with a high education. Furthermore, as technology advances all over the world, more and more education is required of people.

Some people who study in college or university want to make more friends and increase their interpersonal skills. They enjoy their lives in university or college and tend to socialize a lot. They can meet more people who have the similar interests with themselves. They can go to uni ball after school and make more friends who they trust.

The people who graduate from college seem more confident in our comminity. These people are more respected by society. Many people want to be respected and to be important by family, friends, their bosses, and others in their lives. They find that most of them can confidently talk and do their jobs as they are more educated. Therefore, most of people want to get the confidence through the university or college study.

In today`s society, people need more knowledge and skills to be adapted. The university and college study is a good way to achieve this.

There are a lot of people who are student in univertsities or colleges. Why do People study in university or college? There are variuos reasons which is changed by person. I think, the most important reasons are to gain knowledge and to find a good job.

Nowadays, bosses are looking for employees who are educated and have enough knowledge. Therefore, people who want to find a good job have to study hard and at least have a diploma.

For example, the best boses of the Turkey gives job to the people who still study in Bogaziçi University which is most popular university in Turkey. Especially in Turkey, if you have bachelor degree you can be accepted most of the jobs. In addition, I have a friend who has a high scholl degree in my country. He does not have a job. He applied a lot of jobs but there is no employer who give a job to my friend. Because all of the boses want at least bachelor degree for giving a job.

In addition, attending university or college means to have knowledge. People who has special knowledge have confidence. They can challenge everyone easily. For instance, I have a relative who has a phd degree. When we are discuss about something everyone believe whatever he says. Because he has a phd degree. Furthermore, they can also help people to use their knowledge. That’s why, people respect them. And they are not forgotten by people forever.

In conclusion, people attend university or college for a lot of various reasons. Those are only a few of them what I just mentioned. But the crucial reason of attending university or college is to be respectful and able to help people.

INTERNATIONAL ENGLISH LANGUAGE TESTING SYSTEM (IELTS))

IELTS sınavı İngiliz dilinde eğitim gören öğrencilerin gereken tüm İngilizce becerilerini ölçen bir sınavdır. IELTS, University of Cambridge ESOL sınavları (Cambridge ESOL), British Council ve IDP Education Australia tarafından ortak olarak uygulanmaktadır. IELTS Avusturalya, İngiltere, Kanada ve Yeni Zellanda okullarında geçerli olan bir sınavdır. Amerikan okulları da her geçen gün artan bir sayı ile IELTS sınavını okula kabul belgesi olarak saymaya başlamıştır. Türkiye’de IELTS’i kabul eden üniversite ve şirket sayısı ise gün geçtikçe artmaktadır.Örneğin;Boğaziçi, Bilgi,Yeditepe,THY,Yapı Kredi ve Akbank gibi.

TESTİN İÇERİĞİ

Akademik ve Genel Eğitim olmak üzere iki ayrı modülü vardır. Tüm adaylar aynı Dinleme ve Konuşma testini alırlar. Ancak Okuma ve Yazma bölümlerinde Akademik ve Genel Eğitim farklıdır. Akademik Modül seçeneği yüksek eğitim görmek isteyen adaylar için uygundur. Genel Eğitim Modülü ise akademik olmayan eğitim almak veya İngilizce kullanılan ortamda iş deneyimine sahip olmak isteyen adaylar için geçerlidir.IELTS 4 kısımdan oluşur:

KAYIT KOŞULLARI

• Sınava başvuru için; başvuru formunun doldurulması,banka dekontu,resmi kimlik belgesi ve son 6 ay içinde çekilmiş 1 adet vesikalık fotoğraf(sınav günü getirilecek) gerekmektedir.
• Kayıtlar sınav gününden en geç 2 hafta öncesine kadar kabul edilir.Kontenjan olduğu takdirde,sınav tarihinden önceki 2 hafta içinde gerçekleşen başvurular geçikme bedeline tabi tutulur.Birinci kademe geçikme bedeli 25 Sterlin,ikincisi ise 50 Sterlin’dir.
• IELTS sınavı başvuru ücreti 110 Sterlin British Council Banka hesabına yatırılır.Alınan banka dekontu başvuru formu ve kimlik fotokopisi ile British Council,İstanbul Sınavlar bölümüne fakslanır: 0 212 355 56 59. Ardından faks teyidi için 0 212 355 56 23 aranır.Sınav tarihinden en geç 2 gün önce,teyit için aranmalıdır.Teyit mektubu e-mail olarak gönderilecektir.
• Kayıt iptali durumunda ise, kayıt iptali başvurusu IELTS Transfer ve Kayıt İptali formu ile yapılmalıdır.Sınav tarihinden önceki 7 ile 14 gün arasında müracaat edenlerden 50 Sterlin transfer ücreti alınır. Sınav tarihinden önceki son 7 gün içerisinde transfer müracaatları kabul edilemez.

TESTİN ALINABİLECEĞİ YERLER

IELTS Türkiye’de İstanbul, Ankara ve İzmir’de uygulanır fakat bu sınavın bütün başvuru işlemleri sadece British Council İstanbul ofislerinden yapılmaktadır.

SINAV SONUÇLARININ AÇIKLANMASI

Sınav sonuç belgeleri sınav tarihinden sonraki 13. gün kapalı zarflarda kurye ile adaylara gönderilir. Telefon, faks veya e-mail aracılığı ile sınav sonuçları söylenemez. Sonuç belgeleri adayların tercih ettiği en fazla 5 kuruma, 2 Sterlin kopya ve gönderim ücreti karşılığında British Council tarafından gönderilebilir.

TEST TARİHLERİ

IELTS sınavı ayda iki kez yapılmaktadır.1 Mayıs 2006 tarihinden itibaren adaylar 3 ay beklemek zorunda kalmaksızın istedikleri tarihte yeniden IELTS sınavına katılabilirler.
Adaylar sınavlarını ileri bir tarihe transfer edebilirler. İleri tarihe transfer başvurusu IELTS Transfer ve Kayıt İptali formu ile yapılmalıdır. Transfer işlemi sadece bir kez yapılır. Sınav tarihinden 2 hafta önce transfer için müracaat edenlerden ücret talep edilmez. Sınav tarihinden önceki 7 ile 14 gün arasında müracaat edenlerden £50 transfer ücreti alınır. Sınav tarihinden önceki son 7 gün içerisinde transfer müracaatları kabul edilemez.

EK BİLGİLER

IELTS sınav sonuçları 2 yıl için geçerlidir.
Sınavın sözlü bölümü sınav tarihinden 1 hafta önce veya sonra gerçekleşebilir. Sınav programınızı yaparken lütfen bu noktayı göz önünde bulundurunuz.
